Congratulations to the Senior Girls Soccer team for securing first place in their standings after a hard fought 3-2 win over Fleetwood Park!
GRADE 9 BOYS BASKETBALL The last two weeks have seen the Salish Grade 9 boys basketball team clear some significant hurdles to acheive some memorable wins. On Saturday February 10, the Wolves faced Fleetwood Park in the finals of the Surrey Championship. In front of a packed house of 500+ people, Salish got out to a slow start and was behind as many as 10 points in the first half. Still down 3 heading into the fourth, Salish caught fire in the final quarter going on a 17-3 run capped by not one, but two dagger shots by Jaden Suria to seal the win 52-41. With hardly any rest your Wolves had to enter the South Frasers wirth early match ups against McMath from Richmond and the Stingers from South Delta, The Wolves beat both teams easily behind the efforts of Oliver Watson, Senkyi Kyei and Andre Ezenwaka. The final was once again against arch nemesis, the Fleetwood Park Dragons. This time Salish jumped out to an early lead but Fleetwood kept fighting back all game and brought it within 2 with 3:43 left in the fourth quarter. Super clutch threes by Senkyi Kyei and Jaden Suria followed and sealed the win 53-41 capturing the South Fraser banner. Jaden Suria was a first team all-star and Isaiah Samson was MVP of the tourney. Your Wolves are now headed to Provincials held at Centennial Secondary in Coquitlam starting Friday, March 1.
Junior Girls Basketball The junior girls basketball team has concluded a very successful regular season posting a 16-3 record to date. Despite losing their top 3 scorers from the 2022/2023 squad, the team has improved immensely this year. Whereas last year the team stormed back from a poor first half of the season to take the last spot in the 12 team playoffs, this year’s Wolves have posted a 6-1 record in their division. Their only loss in Tier 2 competition has come at the hands of number 1 ranked Guilford Park (GP). Thus far the two teams have split their games with Salish beating GP by 13 points at the Tamanawis Tournament, but losing in league play to them by 6. In the most recent tournament put on by the league, pitting the teams ranked 2-4 in their divisions against one another, the Wolves came out on top. Yesterday in the final game they defeated L. A. Matheson 34-30 in a tight fought contest. The team had balanced scoring with Dana Jouzy contributing 9 points and 5 rebounds, Mackenzie Billon and Zaara Tiwanna 6, Aria Birch 4 and Alice McNaughton 2. Posts Maiya Stinchcombe and Aniya Thandi also came up big for the team with Stinchcombe adding 4 points and 6 rebounds, while Thandi scored 2 points in addition to pulling down 10 hard fought rebounds. Lexi Whyte lead the team with 4 steals, while Billon had 3. Our Junior girls are among the 6 top teams who will be playing for the banner in the SSSAA (Surrey Secondary Schools Athletic Association) Championships starting on February 21st, 2024. Salish will be playing Elgin Park, at Elgin Park in the quarter finals on the 21st at 3:30 Go Wolves!

With a few seniors and a healthy amount of Grade 10s, the team started the season not with a 1st Place finish at the Grandview Secondary Tournament. They continued their strong play and finished 3rd during league play.
The final was an exciting 5 set match between Salish and the defending champions, McMath Secondary. Already up 2 sets to 1, in the 4th set Salish had 4 match points. The day began with rain and mud. Runners faced an extremely slippery course to begin with, and was made worse with spikes digging up dirt. Despite the conditions the Wolves were in good spirits as the faced some of the fastest in BC.
Our Juniors did tremendously despite the conditions. The Junior Girls came 5th in the BC and the Juniors was in 8th place. Great Job everyone!
Congratulations to Arjun Sandhu as he won the Junior Boys race and Janaya Sandhu was the 11th fastest Junior Girl in the province!
